Main Factors Affecting Mixing Time
(1) Mortar Type
Ordinary Mortar (e.g., Masonry Mortar, Plastering Mortar):
Usually requires 5–10 minutes of mixing. For example, mixing cement, sand, and admixtures evenly typically takes 6–8 minutes.
Special Mortar (e.g., Thermal Insulation Mortar, Waterproof Mortar):
Due to the inclusion of special aggregates (e.g., expanded perlite, fibers) or admixtures, mixing time may be extended to 10–15 minutes to ensure uniform dispersion of additives.
(2) Equipment Model and Capacity
Small Laboratory Mixers (Capacity <100L):
Mixing time is generally 3–8 minutes, suitable for quick trials or small batches.
Medium-Sized Production Mixers (Capacity 100–500L):
Requires 8–12 minutes to balance efficiency and mixing uniformity.
Large Industrial Mixers (Capacity >500L):
Mixing time may increase to 10–15 minutes due to higher material volumes, requiring more rotations to achieve homogeneity.
(3) Mixing Process and Additive Sequence
Additive Sequence:
If additives (e.g., cellulose ether, retarding agents) are added late, an additional 2–3 minutes of mixing may be needed after their incorporation.
Dry Mixing vs. Wet Mixing:
Dry Mixing (all dry materials): 5–10 minutes.
Wet Mixing (adding water during mixing): Total time may extend to 8–15 minutes, as water needs to be fully integrated with dry materials.
